entire staff is dedicated to integrity, professionalism and unparalleled

Our History
Our agency was founded in 1862 in Davenport as the William F. Ross Co. The firm
was known as Hornby and Ruhl in 1903, Ruhl and Mittelbuscher in 1910 and Ruhl
and Wernentin in 1915. The current name of Ruhl & Ruhl dates back to 1919 when
brothers, Edward Ruhl and C. Arthur Ruhl joined the firm, which was located in
the old Masonic Temple building on the northeast corner of Third and Main
Streets, Davenport.
In 1923, Ruhl & Ruhl moved to 217 Main Street, which is now the First Federal
Building. The Agency remained there until 1946 when it moved to the First
National Building in downtown Davenport. In 1949-50, John G. Ruhl and his
brother, Charles A. Ruhl, joined the Agency. Both men sold insurance and real
estate. In October 1956, their uncle met an untimely death from injuries
suffered in a house gas explosion. This forced the Ruhl brothers to concentrate
on their specialties on a permanent basis; John in insurance and Chuck in real
estate. A brother-in-law, Don Challed, joined the firm in 1957 to work the
insurance side. In 1959, their father Arthur Ruhl died. The same year, Jim
McHugh joined the firm and, together with the others, they incorporated in 1960
as Ruhl & Ruhl Inc. The corporation was a multiline insurance agency and
full-service residential, commercial and industrial real-estate and property
management firm. The officers were: President - John Ruhl, Vice President -
Chuck Ruhl, Secretary - Don Challed and Treasurer - Jim McHugh. By 1962, the
firm had a staff of 20 and moved to a building on Second Street, downtown
Davenport in 1978.
In 1982, John Ruhl retired and the Insurance and Real Estate companies that had
been operating as separate divisions formed two separate corporations. Don
Challed became president of the insurance corporation and Chuck Ruhl Sr. became
president of the real estate corporation.
In 1990,the insurance firm moved to its present day locations in the Putnam
Building. The officers of the corporation are Chairman of the Board - Michael
Lischer, President - Scott Saveraid, Vice Presidents - Jay Matlock,
Tim Smith and Mike Wernsman. Mike Wernsman also serves as Secretary and
Tim Smith serves as agency manager. The Treasurer is Fonda Van Nattan.

Affiliated Insurance Service
- What we are:
- A network of carefully selected local insurance services gives us, your
hometown insurance provider, resources that match the country's largest
insurance and brokerage houses and yet gives us the flexibility to best meet
your needs.
- Services remain the key to AIS-member firms. That means that we offer
invaluable personal service that cannot be found in the branch offices of
larger insurance providers. When you do business with an AIS member, you will
receive the attention of an office principal.
- With AIS companies, you get insurance and employee benefits' services
tailor-made to your specific requirements, no matter how large or small your
firm may be.
- Because AIS affiliates are handpicked, we represent the best providers in
the business. Many of our members are second and third-generation firms with
traditions of professional service that comes from knowing and understanding
our local markets.
- Today's economy requires flexibility when it comes to meeting a client's
insurance and benefits needs. That's one reason AIS members are required to
attend frequent in-depth seminars that explain how certain changes affect the
insurance programs of our clients.
- This helps to ensure that you get the finest combination of coverage and
cost. When it comes to risk analysis, AIS-member companies are experts who will
recommend and procure the best possible coverage at the lowest available cost.
- Employee Benefits
- The all-important and ever-changing area of employee benefits remains a
challenge to every company, large or small. AIS members are well equipped to
meet these challenges
- Each affiliate office is well versed in the laws and regulations pertaining
to pensions, group hospitalization, workmen's compensation, disability,
dental/vision benefits and longterm care plans.
- Personal Insurance
- Personal insurance protection and competent financial planning are among the
most critical services an agency provides. Trusted specialists in these areas
can guide you through your options to design a program specifically to realize
your financial goals and coverage requirements.
- Shrinking World No Challenge to AIS
- The advent of Internet trade and the "globalization" of companies through
acquisitions, partnerships and joint-ventures means that even companies of
modest size require insurance and benefits' services on a national or
international scale.
- Through AIS, your firm can secure trusted, professional services anywhere
with confidence that you will receive the same competent attention provided by
our hometown AIS affiliate.
- AIS-Affiliate Capabilities:
-
Competent risk analysis to ascertain need for insurance (merely one mechanism
for transfer of risk.)

- It is important to note that when you do business with an AIS member you
will be receiving the attention of an office Principal - a cardinal rule in our
mutual understandings.
- Experience
- Every member is a wholly contained established business in itself, selected
on the basis of its competency, reputation, personnel and business mix. If you
like doing business with your local AIS member, you will have the identical
experience doing business with one of our Affiliates.
